Lotusscript is great but I think most would agree that it lacks quite a lot of the features that are needed when creating truly network aware applications. All these features are in Java and yes you can use LS2J to get access to them but LS2J is very very limited ...

It is great that from R7 we have a decent Notes client for OS X but what we really want is the designer and admin clients too.

 

Surely we are not that far away from it in R8 and the move to Eclipse!?!

When developing applications in Java beit a servlet, plugin or whatever and you want to access the DOM classes you need to have everything wrapped in a Notes Thread.

How about a simple GUI tool for compacting, fixing and updating the indices on local databases? The current tools are fine for us techies but are completely alien to end users.

More and more employees/users are working from home and therefore DIY database maintenance is becoming a reality.

The Workspace is currently a completely proprietary model.  It's only available to the Notes client as a whole.  Only IBM can effectively code it.  It's not usable or controllable by Domino developers or administrators.  And it's mode of operation is great ...

Have you ever looked at the documents that are created by the Notes client in Bookmark.nsf?  They have a text item called "Title" and then all other information is stored in an internal binary format.  There is a field called "URL" that would presumably be a Universal Resource Locator, but ...

The Notes 8.5 client still has the same tired workspace from Notes version 2.  It still only supports icons with 16 colors.  It's a joke.

We still have to use the Notes Infobox for the major of property settings, even though Eclipse provides an excellent property page model.  The Notes properties need to be moved there.

I can't believe that this is even having to be raised, but the new Designer client should have proper editors for LotusScript and Java not just the same ones that we have always had wrapped into an Eclipse framework. It is a huge missed opportunity.
